Embrace the Digital Age

Yesterday I bought A Love Supreme, John Coltrane's classic album.

I bought it at Easy Street Records, partly to support record stores (today is after all National Record Store Day) and partly cuz I already had a gift certificate to Easy Street.  Ok I will admit, it was mostly cuz I had a gift certificate, but I figure it is still is good for their business for me to be in their shopping.

When I got home I began to unwrap the CD and it took me back to a time when I was younger, a time when I was hecka into buying CDs.  You know how it is....you unwrap the plastic, look at the cover, throw the CD in your boombox and soak up the beats while you read the rest of the booklet.  Last night I was tearing the plastic off the CD and at first I started thinking, "I love buying CDs.  This is somethin I miss.  Whatever happened to the good old days?"

Then, after a couple minutes of trying to scrape all the stupid plastic off without damaging the actual case, and after realizing I now have more unwanted stuff in my room (the only part I really care about is the music), it dawned on me that actually I really don't miss buying CDs.

I don't miss it at all.  I like clicking a little button on iTunes and buying a CD for a price that is cheaper than in stores.  Not only is it cheaper, I don't have to deal with all the packaging.  I love the digital age.  I'll admit this seems funny for for me to say, since I plan on spending the summer selling CDs on the street but hey, at least my stuff is on iTunes!

After my Easy Street gift certificate runs out I probly won't be buying physical CDs anymore.  Of course I will support dope artists, but I choose to support them buy coppin it online.
