A Great Night and an Exhausted Day
Las night I had a show at Columbia City Theatre and I'm happy to say it was a success! There were plenty of people there, I came witit and there were no technical difficulties. That is a huge relief since technology has been fuckin with me during my sets for the past few months.
I also sold a grip of CDs and people showed me love, which in turn was thrown right back of course. One thing that's tough for me is, after my sets I run around tryin to sling CDs as fast as possible, cuz that's the best time to get them off. I be havin hecka adrenaline runnin through me and, since the venue is super dark, I always worry I'm gonna keep asking the same people to cop my CD. Hopefully folks don't get annoyed by that. I swear I try to memorize faces so I don't ask heads twice but sometimes I feel like everybody looks the same.
This is especially true when I'm working the drive-thru at Starbucks. It's tons of people sliding through for their coffee, SUV after SUV, most of them with baby seats in the back and picky coffee preferences. Eventually all their faces meld together to create one coffee-thirsty, madeline cookie fiending archetype. Speaking of work, the downside to having a great show was it kept me out late when I had to work at 6:30am this morning. I officially hate working on only three hours of sleep. I felt like people were bein short with me and I guess I can't blame them...I dunno...maybe I looked haggard or somethin. I sure felt lousy, all I wanted was to get out of there and take a nap. Sometimes it's tough for me to balance work and hip hop but I must find a way.
Back to the show: the homies Gran Rapids killed it! They have a super live stage show, complete with a live drummer, background lights and stage fog. It was good to see that you can be relatively new on the scene and still throw your own shows by getting your own fans to come see you put it down. The entire show was organized and professional, which makes a huge difference.
Someone to check out is the DJ and beatmaker for Gran Rapids, J Battle...

This dude also held it down for me during my set. He was on the CDJs and I even freestyled over his beats, which are slappin. He got flows, he got beats...basically I can see him doin big things in the future.

"...one coffee-thirsty, madeline cookie fiending archetype." I read this about three times laughing. Too funny!
