Street Sounds update! Oct. 14

"Street Sounds baby it's the sound of street!"

That's what Rhymefest says anyways.

For the first part of this week's show we took it back to the old skoool.  Here's some of the cuts:

Busy B vs. Kool Moe D- MC Battle  This was a hype battle from back in the day.  Busy B is real fun with his style.  Purely on some party rockin, call and response type stuff.  Kool Moe D is a dope lyricist tho.  He kicked  crazy styles that cats aint even heard before...pretty much clownin on and killin Busy B.

Jay-Z- Freestyle from Big Daddy Kane's B-Day Party '91  Jigga is killin it now and was crazy back then too.  He's slick with the wordplay and even nicer with the delivery.

DMX- Freestyle from Stretch and Bobitto '91  Damn I didn't know X sounded so different back in the day.  His voice wasn't even rough like it is now and he kept talkin' bout frogs.  Frog this and frog that.

It was dope hearin all the old stuff and, to be honest, I aint very up on my 4H.

I aint talkin about some cub scouts shit, that's Hip-Hop History Homework.

It's always good to be exposed to that stuff and learn about everything that has paved the way to the music of 2007 (regardless of if you love or hate the current state of hip-hop.)

The homies Waves of the Mind
also came thru to bless us with a couple of joints and a dope interview.  These guys are some dope locals.  I would say they on the comeup but actually, they been around long enuf that they are almost veterans.

Respect due!

Oh and I was kidding about DMX talkin about frogs.  He wasn't talkin bout frogs, dogs or any other animals.

Thanks for reading and remember, you can still stream the show online for two weeks at www.kexp.org.
