Tales From the Grind: Part 1

Sometimes I'll be spittin' w/ people out on the street wherever I'm at, usually around downtown, and cats will tell me they gonna get me in the studio to record a mixtape joint or whatever.

This happens quite a bit.  I always give 'em my card and say something like,

"Holler at me, I'll do it 4sho."

Well they never hit me.  So many heads have said they'd "holler at me" and I can count on one hand how many times they actually got at me.

I aint complainin' tho cuz that's the nature of the game.

The other day this cat actually did hit me about studio time.  So of course I did my part and came thru.

It was a ways up Ranier so I had to take a kinda long bus ride but it was no big deal cuz I'll do whatever for free studio time...as long as I don't get scammed.

I finally get there and the "studio" turned out to be a laptop with a mic that he had taken down cuz he was in the process of moving.

Since he was moving, there was stuff everywhere but I am a chill dude so it's all good.

We picked out a beat, which was a not-that-tight keyboard beat he made on his Korg Triton but hey like I said it's coo....I aint the imperial Hova, I'll spit to whatever it don't need to be Timbo's latest heat.

Write before we started writing to the beat he got a call saying he had to move way sooner than expected and we only had a half hour to get this "studio session" done.

That gave me jus enough time to write my verse and listen to him spit his verse.  Then, just before I was bout to get on the mic.

"Ah man I think we should reschedule cuz I gotta finish movin' yadig?"

Ya I dug it and then I got to help him move out.  Luckily I been takin' karate lessons so I can handle lifting giant dressers down stair cases.

It was like a hip hop version of this:

I mean I could've given him some lame excuse like, "Uhhh I gotta be somewhere."  But I think it is evil to bounce on someone when they need help moving, regardless of the situation.

It's all love I aint even mat at ya.....we gon get that track made and it'll be fiyaaaaaaahhhhhh!
